Of God:
We believe in the one true and living God, the maker of all things both seen and unseen. We
believe that God exists in and of Himself, and that He is infinite both in being and perfection. We
believe that God is sovereign over all things, and that in His sovereignty He is wholly good,
loving, and just. In Him is all righteousness, and He alone is worthy of all glory, honor, and
praise.
We believe that God has revealed Himself to His creation in three persons; The Father, the Son,
and the Holy Spirit – yet He is one God. The Father eternally generates the Son, the Son is
eternally begotten by the Father, and the Holy Spirit eternally proceeds from both the Father
and the Son. Each person of the Triune God possesses the full divine nature of God, and each
person exists eternally. Though the persons of the Triune God may possess distinct personal
attributes, there remains but one God.
Of Scripture:
Though God has revealed Himself generally to all people through His creative work, we believe
that God has expressly made Himself known in His Holy Scriptures. The Scriptures were written
by men who were divinely inspired by the Spirit of God. We believe that the Scriptures are the
very words of God Himself, and that they are sufficient to teach, reprove, rebuke, and instruct
the people of God in all righteousness. Scripture, as the Word of God, is therefore the only
infallible and inerrant authority over the people of God. Though the Scriptures do not deny the
existence of other authorities, these are to be subservient to the authority of God’s Word alone.
Of Man and Sin:
We believe that God created man in His image, and that man was created perfect and upright.
However, when the first man transgressed the command of God, his nature was henceforth
enslaved to sin. This sin nature has been passed down to all mankind, and therefore all people
are born with a sin nature that pervades all aspects of human life.
All people are now inclined to sin, and therefore fall short of the perfection and righteousness
that God requires. As a result, apart from the grace of God, all people stand condemned before
a holy and righteous God, and are due the punishment of eternal damnation separated from
God.
Of God’s Grace in Salvation:
We believe that man is wholly incapable of achieving God’s standard of perfect righteousness by
any works of their own. Therefore, God assumed a human nature in the second person of the
Trinity, God the Son. He became like man in every way, yet remained without sin, and lived a life
wholly pleasing to God – in which He fulfilled the righteous requirement of God’s Law. God the
Son, in the person of Jesus Christ, then willingly laid down His own life as a propitiation for the
sins of His people.
It is therefore by the grace of God alone, through faith in the gospel of Jesus Christ, that any
man can be saved. For those who have received the gift of faith, God frees them of their
bondage to sin, and makes them a new creation that is capable and willing to seek after Christ.
In being made new, God imputes the righteousness of Christ to His people, and they are
therefore made righteous (or justified) in the sight of God.
We believe that this regenerative work comes through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The
Holy Spirit thus leads the faithful in the path of righteousness, so that they are able to live lives
that are pleasing to God.
